Qoute of the moment

Masks give me permission to safely transform and experience what was, what is and what might be. Masks allow me to share. Masks say it's OK to have fun! Masks permit spontaneity. Masks mask our facades. Masks have been at the centre of ceremonies for thousands of years.

Stage Directions Magazine features Mask Making and Mask Performance in their January Issue -

Stage Directions Magazine January '08 issue features a special section on performing in masks and making masks. The magazine highlights the work of mask designers Alyssa Ravenwood www.alyssaravenwood.com and Tan Huaixiang. Maskmakers Web is listed as a resource. From the article by Ellen Seiden: " Masks can enhance productions by bringing a physicality to performances that helps lead to heightened drama, humor and audience camaraderie...According to all mask enthusiasts interviewed, the benefits of having performed in mask are body awareness and body freedom. Training in effectively communicating emotion and action with the body gives the actors another tool to use besides the voice and face. Getting behind masks becomes an added dimension in visual awe for your theatrical performances."

The issue is available from Stage Directions
