| Description: | Generally, my sculpture is tribal in nature. My influences are African, Oceanic, and South American tribal arts. Although I respect the belief systems of these tribes, I do not confer or believe that the tribal arts I create are endowed with supernatural powers. Rather, I create these pieces because I admire the aesthetic qualities of this form of art. Like tribal peoples, I use the materials that are provided by the local environment; paper, bone, and found items. Plus I have the added advantage of the materials of an industrial society and access to items collected from around the world.

I started working with masks when I first started up this paper mache frenzy - mainly because you can get as abstract as you want to and I wasn't quite friendly with realistic human faces at that time. As you can tell I was very influenced by tribal masks - I'd love to collect the real thing, but can't afford it... Heads kinda evolved out of masks - when I became brave enough to try for a more 3-d look. I'm still working on it, as you can probably tell.
