Link profile: SATRIYA DANCE MASK OF ASSAM - Indian Museum Calcutta
Category: Start / Museums

Some of the life size satriya masks measure about ten feet in height. Others represent both head and face masks. The masks have the inner core in bamboo strips covered by thread of cane with the coating of cow dung, clay, cloth and paper. The images are then painted with vegetal pigments. Displayed here are a good number of colourful masks prepared at Khatpar satra of Sibsagar, Assam recently acquired by the Anthropology section of the Indian Museum.
