Kagura masks are primarily made from Washi, or Japanese paper. The mask is made by layering the paper onto a plaster mask mold, removing the paper once it has dried, and then hand painting the mask. The paper masks are much lighter than the original wood masks used in the past, which allows quick, free movement during a performance
