PAPIER MACHE MASK

Material

Presentation

Blow up a round balloon to the approximate size if a child's head. Knot the end. Dip strips of newspaper into wallpaper paste and apply to balloon. To mold a nose add dry wadded newspaper. Cover the front half of the balloon to a thickness of approximately 1/8". Pay careful attention to the edges of the mask. Let it dry on the balloon overnight.

The next day remove the mask from the balloon and cut out eye and nose holes. The teacher may need to help here. Trim the edges if necessary. Make a hole at each side for attaching an elastic band or ribbon that will hold the mask securely on the head. Paint and decorate as desired.

Note:

It is possible to purchase face molds from a craft store. A face mold enables a mask to fit the contours of the face. Children enjoy creating masks that looks like themselves.
