Description : A reader from Chicago, IL: I searched for an outstanding mask text. I have done mask work as a professional actor. Although this book is targeted to a university level instructor, Appel's book fits the bill whether you are a professional or a theatre instructor with some experience working with mask. Clear, concise lessons in an easy to use format. The lessons are easily adaptable to all ages if you have a basic knowledge of mask work and a little bit of courage. I had a amazing experience working with the book. The accompanying text gave me the courage to try things I ordinarily wouldn't have had the guts to tackle...For example, the book has many exercises requiring students to work in silence for extended periods of time. My students loved the work and I loved working with this material. It is the best book on the market on mask characterization.
