"Each of my masks is hand made with great attention to detail and construction, making them as comfortable to wear as they are enjoyable to look at. They are formed over a wire rimmed, vinyl base that stays slightly fexible around the edges, alowing them to fit a wide variety of face shapes. They are then decorated with feathers, fabric and floral leaves. Eyes, noses and beaks are made of a light-wieght, air drying modelling material, then sealed with paper-mache, acryilcs and polyurethane."

I have designed and created masks, headdresses, headpieces and fancy veils for Halloween costumes, Mardi Gras, Venetian Carnival and Masquerade, for themed parties, themed weddings, theatrical productions, and just for fun. My work is crafted from various materials: stiffened fabric meant to conform to the contours of your face for a unique fit; papi?r m?ch?, and an interesting metal-look material. Each mask is meticulously hand-crafted.

NOVICA ARTIST "Once I have the piece in front of me I begin to imagine what I will carve and how I will carve it ..." ?Hello, my name is Rutilio Pascual and I was born on October 6, 1958, in Ocumicho, Michoacan. Since I was a child, I worked in agriculture, a very enduring labor with little or no profit. When we got married, my wife Tomasa began elaborating ceramic figurines to help me with our household expenses. She always told me that I should also work with ceramics, but I continued in agriculture until she convinced me to switch over. It was nine years ago that my cousins taught me how to make wooden masks, and now I?m continuing the trade on my own.

NOVICA ARTIST "I was born in 1946 in Ancash, Peru. I am a self-taught artist, dedicating myself to ceramics and craftmaking since my youth. I specialize in masks influenced by the Vicus, Mochica, and Nazca cultures. I focus largely on the mix of form and color, and despite a lack of formal training I have created a unique, personal style. I try to always remember my roots, while also learning from my readings and travels. Everyday I hope to improve myself, and achieve a style that is both gratifying for me and for those who are interested in my work. Now that I know my art will reach many people, I will dedicate all my efforts and emotion into creating pieces which will resonate in the hearts and minds of my future following. Thank you."

Back in the late 1970's, the influence of Planet of the Apes, Rick Baker's King Kong, and Star Wars inspired many of the members of this group to start experimenting with acting, make-up, props, and costumes. The discovery of science fiction conventions in the LA and San Francisco areas lead us to assemble the Merry Monkeytime Players several times per year for weekends of fun and debauchery. Reuniting for John Chambers' 75th birthday party in '97 brought back all the fun, childhood memories, and inspiration that led us all in creative career directions. The Players of APEMANIA come from all walks of life. Some of us are actors, some are artists, all of us love Planet of the Apes. Here's a look at who we are with and without make-up. I am a sculptor. My passion is sculpture. I love this earthy, hands on, get it all over you, touchy, feely art form of sculpture. There's excitement with every pour and firing. The delight when wonderful things happen more than compensates for the disappointments of losses and the failures. Where do I get my sculpture ideas? Sometimes I know just what I want to make. Often times I just start, using any tool I can get my hands on and if the material suggests an idea, I go for it. I believe this is why I feel such excitement and adventure in what I am doing.

Christina Conrad is a well-known eccentric in her native New Zealand. For more than 20 years she lived as a recluse, hacking out her own, tribal wilderness. These masks are reflections of the wraiths and spirits with whom she kept, and continues to keep, company. Conrad says: "There is something magical about holding a lump of clay in one's hands.
