    • Help! Does anyone know what I can put into my wheat paste to stop bugs from coming to eat it? I make papier mache masks but someone told me that one of my masks I sold got bugs. I am in a super tropical environ and I have to try to think of a way to avoid this. I like the wheat paste and would like to keep working with it. I already add lemon, what else? And how about a laquer after I paint? Would that help? THANKS in advance

    • Try mixing alum in the paste. Alum can be bought at the pharmacy here in Sweden. Ask your hometown pharmacy about it.

    • It also depends on what the mask is for. If it is a decorative mask to be hung on the wall and not worn, then you could use a paste that has poison in it such as some varieties of vinyl wall paste. If the mask is to be worn, you can also use various coatings on the mask, such as water-based varathane, found at http://www.polyclay.com/fletco.htm Or sculptorcoat. If you store your masks in a trunk, Bay leaves, catnip and basil kept in cheese cloth bags will usually keep most critters away.
