LOOKING FOR MASKS: Venetian Mask Mould RSS

• I have been commissioned to make greeting cards based around the
venetian mask. I have seen many mask moulds, but none are small enough. I need a
mould about 2\" x 3\". Can you advise where I might be able to get such a mould
in the UK. Many thanks.

• Hello Jan.

Your chances may be better at using a brooch or ear ring. Try a search for venetian masks in costume jewelry. You can press mache into the pin. I have several which are little neutral half masks; though not detailed. They were bought in America through Oriental New Orleans, Louisiana. However, they have just been hit by Hurricane Katrina and may have been destroyed. Hopefully not; though, they will not be able to resume business for a while.

Hope this helps.

• Hi,
You could commission a mask maker to make the molds for you. There are many great mask makers in the UK if you want to keep it local. Or contact me through my website (US) ravenwoodmasks.com

you do not need a mold, but simply a pottery doll, all you need to do is mix up a pape mache pulp add your layers and when dried remove from doll dont 4 get to put vaseline on the dolls face so the glue doesnt stick to it. hope this helps x

• Sculpy makes push molds in the shape of small faces. They are made out of silicone so they could be used for paper pulp.

?Art is our human birthright, our most powerful means of access to our own and another?s experience and imaginative life. In continually rediscovering and recovering the humanity of human beings, art is crucial to the democratic vision. A government tending further and further away from the search for democracy will see less and less ?use? in encouraging artists, will see art as an obscenity or hoax.? ? Adrienne Rich
