    • I'm trying to make a sort of Ice Queen mask, the base material is Papier Mache, but i want to create icicles coming off the top of the head. I need them to be quite long, maybe a foot long say. Anyone have any ideas of how i could create a realistic Icicle effect? I would like to use a fairly sturdy material and idealy they would be transparent as well. It's got me stumped, maybe glass i thought... but it would be heavy, not that the mask has to be worn actually... so it could be glass, but how would you manipulate it into a icicle shape? Any other materials anyone?
      Thank you for your time

    • I would use thin acetate sheets, shape them into elongated cones, thinly spray them white so it stays transluscent and then cover parts with a paint that leaves cristal-like flakes and iridescence

    • You know, i did the first part, i got acetate sheets and had worked them into a cone shape, then i covered them with layers of pva a thick varnish to make them rigid. That's as far as i'd got, but what a fabulous way to finish them off, i'd never even thought of that! Thank you for your help Owlmoon:)

    • Or you could use some crafting wire, wrap it in a cone shape and put papier mache around it. You can find the wire in a craft store.

    • hi Anonymous,
I'm late with the suggestion, I have only just found this forum.

I have made icicles for the Christmas tree by designing the shape onto a plastic sheet, using woodworker's glue. That is acrylic glue. When it dries it comes out clear and flexible. Just draw several layers of the glue over each other, leave to dry between layers. Its easy to control the amout of transparency this way.

Well it probably doesn't help you now, so many months since you asked, maybe someone else has the same question and finds this a useful idea to try ...

Hey, I'm pleased to be here... hope to contribute a bit, it looks like a most instructive and lively forum.
