PaPIER MaCHE: How to make a mask on a stick? RSS

• Hi,

I would like to make a mask on a stick - does anyone know how I could make the stick? Or where I could buy a suitable stick/handle from.
I think perhaps dowelling with an elegant handle fitted - like a light-pull handle might work, but I'd want it to be light and elegant.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

• If you know someone who has a lathe then you could ask them to make a handle from a dowel rod.

• I've been looking for nice mask handle or "lorgnettes", myself. I've been told that small wooden spindles found at your local hardware store might work really well.

Goodluck!

• Hello to you all.

Please stay posted for my baton updates. Through this month, I will keep you informed of updates to my site that will show you my mask stems which I will refer to as batons. Since I have not been personally contacted as I requested in a previous post, I will share them through my website when they are photographed. I hope they will encourage you to try making them as I do. If not, purchases are always welcomed.

• Hi,

here in France we can buy sticks or rods that get clipped into curtain hooks to make it easier to close or open curtains (no need to pull on the fabric, just pull the rod with the first of the curtain hooks attached to it). Some of these have the most gorgeous baroque-looking grips.

I have recently bought a hollow rod made from clear plastic. It has a simple tube as a handle/grip.
I threaded the rod with satin ribbons, glued them round the tube at the base as a decoration.

I made a kind of casing on one side of my harlequin-type mask, the rod gets pushed into that. On the other side of the mask I have the same ribbons tied to the point and hanging down.
It looks really good, the rod is so unusual.

I have tried a similar idea with tubing from aquarium suppliers (for air). I had to insert a length of thick wire to keep the tube upright. I painted the wire with stripes of bright colours as the tubing is not 100% colourless transparent but needed a change of look.
To be honest, I did like the possibility of shaping the wired tube.
Ohlala... I feel a mask-idea coming into my mind that involves taking up the face contours and making the stick into a part of the mask .....

Greetings, JULA
