Suite101.com is a longstanding web magazine that's going through a major overhaul, redesign and relaunch. The site's Visual and Performing Arts Editor is seeking writers for various sections, including one called "Circus, Mask & Puppetry", which should also include mime, carnival, clown, and related topics.
Writers are asked to publish a weekly 250-400 word article as well as a weekly "blog entry" of about 200 words, keep their topic homepage up-to-date with polls, contests, news and so on, and respond to readers' queries and posts. They receive a modest but gradually increasing fee of $2 per 1,000 page views (this will mean that the first few months will likely be unpaid. After the first two months, a few site writers are now making between $25 and $250/month.)
This position would best suit either an established writer who
wants to have a large amount of editorial freedom and to learn more about web publishing, or a beginning professional who wants to get their work out there. (Academics and practitioners are welcome to apply!)
To apply, candidates should write to apply@suite101.com with the topic name in the subject line, attaching a cover letter, a resume with contact info, three references, a one-paragraph outline of each of the first four articles and two print or online published articles. For further details, contact the editor, Sarah Hood, at visualperformingarts@suite101.com.
Thank you!
