• I am working on a phanotm of the opera mask and I saw on a website a phantom mask that had an antique finish to it. It was an off white color and looked kind of dirty. It also had a brownish "ooze" under the nose and around the eye hole. I have also seen other types of masks with finishes like this one. How do you get this effect of and aged mask?

• There is one product that gives you a crackled effect. On a white surface it gives you an aged look, but slightly yellow.
If you take a look at my homepage you'll find one mask with which I've use this technique. The URL is http://homepage.mac.com/owlmoon1 and the mask's name is Ivoire. Further down you can also find Demon for which I've used the medium on a red surface.
For the product I've used, go to http://www.pebeo.com website and type crackling effect in their search box,

• Ok but what about the brownish "ooze" around the nose and eye? This is the effect that I am trying to get.http://www.amasquerade.com/ThemePages/maskBot_paypal_2.asp scroll down about 3/4 of the page and you will see phantom masks. I am trying to make the $64 white phantom mask.

• use "window colour". it's a synthetic liquid coming out of a bottle which dries transluscent. it is used to make stained glass like picture to stick on windows. there is a wide range of colours to choose from.

• Ok I think I found a really simple solution. I used white computer paper and a flour water mix for paper mache. This gave it the off white dirty look that I wanted and for the ooze I came up with a crasy but effective solution. I added chocolate surup to the flour water mix and painted it on with a really small paint brush where I wanted it. It blended really well and it looks antique.

• Crazy idea indeed. you might want to seal it witj a good overcoat otherwise it will attract bugs !

• dont worry I always seal my masks with a few coats of polyurethane which seals it really good and also brings out the color
