    • Hi there,

I came upon a large amount of epoxy resin, about one and a half kgs (3 pounds). Well it's been sitting in my basement and I thought maybe I could try making a mask with it.

Has anyone here used it as a base material? How would you do it? Any and all thoughts are welcome.

    • Hi.
      Creaturiste here.

      Is it liquid?
What type of Epoxy? There are many.

Either it can be used as the actual material (but use a mesh or a fabric as a structure inside, as is used in making fiberglass,
ot it could be sued as a coating inside masks to make them stiffer and sweatproof.
At least, that is what I hear it does.

I am going to try it soon ,myself. The specific epoxy I have comes in two parts, and turns into a thick countertop varnish. It is clear.
I didn't want to use epoxy inside a paper mache mask, but all the coating products I've tried so far (waterbased, oil-based, enamels...)have been quickly destroyed by the sweat of a single actor I made a Commedia mask for. No other customer of mine has had that problem before as far as I know.

Epoxy can also be amazing for coating eyes and make them look very wet therefor more alive.
Looks good on teeth too, could make saliva, and could enhance the wetness look of blood and wounds on more gorish masks.

      Have fun!
But in well ventilated area, of course...

    • Hi creatureiste

I've got the same two part epoxy. It sets clear... How would I set up the cloth or mesh as a matrix for the epoxy? Would I need to shred it and mix it in with the Epoxy-A before adding the reactant? Or can I just soak an entire cloth in it? Will that hold it's shape?

As for sealents, try using regular matte wood varnish. It seals up quite well and gives the mask a nice sheen...

    • Update: Tried pouring it alone, didn't work. Gonna work on getting some sort of fabric inside, soacking newspaper as we speak.
