    • Ok so I'm wanting an easy way to make a mask that can be painted and deocrated easily and I have a bunch of white sculpey clay, I was wondeirng if there is a way to make a half mask out of it, and how to go about it? I'd rather use regular clay but theres no easy way to get it where I am, and no where that I can use a kiln. icon smile

I've experimented a bit with this myself. The best thing to do is to sculpt the mask over a form of some sort, and make it thin enough so that the finished mask will not be too heavy to wear.

When you are finished sculpting, make sure to bake the mask while it is draped over the form. Sculpey tends to get soft before it hardens, so the mask will droop if not supported.

Also, since the Sculpey is thin, you may want to cover it with something like tin-foil to keep the mask from discoloring.

Another thing that I've found with Sculpey is that it can be brittle after baking, so that may be another thing to take into account.

    • I generally sculpt my masks over plaster forms that I've made from face castings of my wife and myself. If the plaster is mixed correctly, it creates a nice hard form to sculpt on. You may also be able to use the plaster form as the support when baking. Since Sculpey bakes at such a low temperature, I wouldn't think it would hurt the form. Usually when I've baked Sculpey, though, I've used wadded up pieces of tin foil for support.

    • I just made a mask using Rigid Wrap Plaster Cloth. I used my own face for the form. Very easy to do and didn't take much time at all.
