Here's a video I made of vacuum forming a mask with a kitchen oven, a vacuum cleaner, and a vacuum forming machine that's not much more than a board with a hole in it and a couple of window screen frames to hold the plastic:

Here's an "Instructible" with step-by-step instructions for making the simple vacuum former for about $40, in an hour or so:

You can make a good standalone oven for plastic up to 12 x 20 inches out of a two-burner hot plate and disposable aluminum pans, for under $30, in about half an hour. (Perfect for maskmaking outside your kitchen.)
This stuff, and a bunch of other free information on vacuum forming, is linked at my new Vacuum Former Plans web site, http://www.VacuumFormerPlans.com.
Among other things, there are links to articles and threads on other sites, showing how to vacuum form masks from craft foam and textured acrylic fluorescent light diffuser panels. You can get some pretty interesting textures and effects.
