Tis another season for holiday masks. Any elf lovers out there? Here are some ideas for accenting a fun-filled wardrobe for Santa's little helpers. These masks are whimsical and will attract attention to your event or display.
Start with a neutral mask for support and sculpt the features approximately 3/4 of the way down to right above the mouth. Make the shape deep enough to cover your face nicely from the sides. Allow to dry and position on your face to determine where to place the ear tips.
Trim it where necessary so that there is enough of an opening that allows you to hear. Align it so that the ears will be in a natural position. Then add some pointed ears at the point where your own ear tips are located. Shape that area to fit comfortably over your own ears. The ears should look like an extension of your ears. Paint the masks flesh tone. Add cords or an elastic band to hold in place. These are meant to be worn with elf hats.
It's easy to do with liquid starch and recycled paper. Just tear, dip and apply over the neutral mask. Noses and ears can be made by squeezing the paper into desired shapes. Use any adhesive medium that works for you. Remember to let the layers dry and try not to saturate between layers. It should pop right off once dried by separating along the sides of the mask with fingers between the form and the paper mache. Keep them light weight for easy wearing.
These masks are great for adding whimsy to any costume. Try them with trolls too. Have fun sculpting the noses and ears. You can add yarn to the eyebrows and just let your imagination run wild. Hope you'll give it a try.
Have a happy and safe Yule Tide Season and happy mask making to one and all!
