MAKING MASKS: Getting started RSS

• I have been doing costuming for nearly twenty years and do professional quality work, but have never attemped a leather mask. I am designing a dragon slayers/conquering Goddess costume for a convention in Oct. and I was thinking about a helmet/ mask/crown type headress. The first inspiration came while watching a rerun of "Big Trouble in Little China". The crytal crown Kim Katrail wears in that movie is pretty cool; then while thinking along the lines of a leather mask I stumbled on to Anglemask.com. Holy crap that Pheonix Mask is sensational. It has all the elements I'm looking for, how ever I'm sure she has been making those masks for ten years or more and I haven't made one. My first attempt will be a two layer leather helmet with a dragons head on the forehead and wings of leather and crystal that sweep back from my head and down to cup my face like a Roman legion helmet . With a crystal crest/tiera and the sweep of feathers like the Pheonix headress. I have been scowering the net for instructions and all the books I have found so far are out of print. I would love to hear from anyone who has anything from beginners tips to professional tricks of the trade and any titles of books currently available, web sites that will really teach what I need to know and get me started and keep me pumped through to an end product I will be proud of. Hit me with what ever you've got. I'll read all the past posts then I'm sure I will have specific questions for the guys who seem to possess mad masking skills.
Thanks,
Peggy
