LOOKING FOR MASKS: Looking for blank masks for wedding favors RSS

    • Hi folks

I am getting married in April 2009 and would like to give out venetian style masks as favors. I am quite arty so looking to decorate the masks myself. I am therefore looking for ceramic or paper mache to decorate. I am interested only in the half mask/columbina style masks. I prefer smaller than life size masks if possible. Does anyone out there know where I can buy such masks? I am looking for about 50, so price is definitely an issue. I live in the United Kingdom. Also would be interested in a mould if anyone has any ideas.

      All suggestions welcome.

      Thanks in advance

    • Hi Ruth,

Hobbycraft do some, but they are a bit thick and not very cheap, but there are places on the internet to buy, just found this one:

      http://www.save-on-crafts.com/theatermasks.html

It's the cheapest I've seen all the rest are around £7-£10 each.

Your other option is to buy one as a template and then use some thickish card to cut the others from.

    • Hi Alan

Thanks for responding, however the masks are not available according to the website. Also it is an America website, which would mean horrendous shipping charges as I am in the UK. Anyone else got any ideas?, am beginning to think I may have to abandon my idea.

    • Hi Ruth,

sorry about that, just picked the cheapest one I could find. You could try Hobbycraft which do stock the Mache Half-Masks that you are looking for, go to www.hobbycraft.co.uk to find your nearest store. Failing that, Party shops like Peeks of Bournemouth stock 'Lone Ranger' type masks and blank card half-masks, but these are thin and usually on elastic.

    • Hi Alan

Where did you see the masks? I can't seem to find them on the Hobbycraft website, the search facility is pretty useless. I would visit a shop, but I live in Scotland and there is only one store in the whole country which is a distance away.

      Thanks for your help

    • Hi Ruth,

they don't really list them on the website unfortunately, but if you look at the 'Ideas Library' and then put 'mask' in the search you can find 2 projects with their masks. I think they are still pretty pricey though from what I remember, about £3+ each.

You could take a cast of your face and then build them up on this basis, but it's time consuming, especially if you want 50 and then to decorate them!

    • Hello Ruth.

If you have not found a source yet, please check out my blanks at http://www.rozani.com/masks.htm and e-mail me rozani@entercomp.com. I offer smaller, decorated ones. However, these may give you an idea.

      Thank you.
