• Can anyone advise me on what the best glue/s are to use is when working with tinfoil? I am in the UK so would appreciate it if ony posters would describe adhesives by the substances themselves rather than possibly unfamiliar US brand names. Thanks!

    • That is a very interesting topic. Please let me know if you find out how to glue tinfoil. Augusto.

    • hi,

have had some interesting results working with glue gun and tin foil as a modeling medium. However if you want to stick foil flat use a spray glue, for instance spray mount, available at art shops. Also use a quality foil as it rips less easily.

    • I just went to a workshop, where the artist showed some interesting results using tinfoil and carpenters glue diluted in a bit of water, carefully applied with brush. icon wink

    • Thanks for your replies! I only have expereince using quite basic cheap household foil, not specialist craft foils. I've tried working with undiluted pva glue as well as clear "UHU" type glue, and in both cases the foil tended to peel off very easily, hence my post. I haven't yet worked with a glue gun , so thanks for mentioning that ! I want to be able to overlap and overlay the foil on a papier-mache surface. Perhaps if the mask is lacquered or acrylic varnish brushed or sprayed on at the end, that solves the problem, but it's frustrating when it peels as I am working on the object (which is quite curved and contoured , not flat, by the way). Thanks again for the responses.

    • Do you actually want to use foil or is the the reflective surface you want? You could try using Silver Leaf - more expensive than foil but would stick ok. The other option is to use a spray contact adhesive which you spray on both surfaces and leave to go tacky. The only problem with this is that once you have positioned, you can't move it.
