• In regards to selling our mask creations. There are several ways in pursuing marketing. And it depends on the mask itself where you wnat to target in you marketing. Coarse most important is getting known as the creative artist. Example: Myself living in a tourist town, I give demonsrations now and then at the galleries I exhibit and sell through during the warm season, though important not to give away all your secrets. Heh, heh... Even carry a small profolio everywhere you go, a few masks in my car, some brochures of your works too. Hands on, word of mouth promotes. Just a few hints to keep intact for marketing. As for full timing. Good luck. I'm sure this could be done. I like my art where I'm at. Its under my control and the extra income is nice. Heh, a fear is that I would "have to" and my imagination would block out. Thats a sacry thought... A-

• Hi..This is susan lining up with Christian..I would like to ask the same question..Maskmaking is great ! I love it...But How to make a good living..that is the question...????How do you people put a price on your work? Do you sell itselves? Or use galleries or agents? Is maskmaking your only income, or?? I make masks fulltime, and I would hate having to do anything else to pay the rent...
Yours Susan

• I have been making a living full time off of making and selling masks for four years and another four years part time before that. I have used two main methods. One is finding my audience. You can always sell a few masks at any show but I find it's so much better to "fine tune" your base of appeal. Sell at fantasy shows, art shows, renaissance fairs, anywhere true art is appreciated. Craft shows do not work. At least not for me. The second method is just being aggressive. Show your work and if you have the talent it will show through. Let it speak for you. You don' t need a sales pitch. Your work does the selling for you. We are visual artists and need visual merchadising.

• Christian,

Besides Mardi Gras the fantasy route has been the most productive route for me. I suggest going to http://www.faire.net/scribe to see if there are any shows in your area. The site includes dates and contact names so it should help. I began by doing everything myself....production, setup, decorating the area, running the shop (or table as it may be), etc. Hard work but a quick teacher.
As far as finding my audience I just had to try a number a various, different show to see which one received my product best. Often I did the same show each year to verify my findings. It took me several years to find what direction I needed to go. It wouldn't suprise me if it takes you a while too. So besides your talent, belief in your self and a lot of patience is all you need.
Hope this helps. Feel free to contact me anytime.
