    • Has anyone taken the classes offered by Donato Sartori? How much of the Italian language is needed? Are the classes worthwhile? Thanks.

    • I, too, would be interested in knowing about Sartori's Workshop. My teacher in college visited his studio and said it was fantastic, lively, amazing. But she did not do the workshop.

From what I understand, there is a great level of depth offered in understanding the characters as well as creating masks.

What about the D'ell Arte school in Blue Lake California? Has anyone any affilliation with them?

    • I did the workshop at Dell Arte in Blue Lake and it was great. Since I took the class they have expanded from two weeks to three weeks. You spend the mornings in the workshop, creating two maks and the afternoon is spent in the studio, working mask performance. The location is wonderful, in the heart of the redwoods, 15 minutes from the ocean, lots of nude beaches and the nearby town of Arcata is great!!

    • Bruce Marrs with the Dell'Arte International School for Physical Theatre is an amazing teacher. Anyone that takes his workshop will leave with finished masks in hand, and the ability to continue mask making and performing on their own. It is a 2 week intensive with an optional 3rd week. Yes, you can learn everything you need in the 2 weeks, but taking that extra week really solidifies everything that you experience there. Those who remain for that 3rd week really grow close and end up making some really great masks, as well as developing dymnamic performance pieces.
Bruce himself is an extraordinary teacher, performer, and mentor. He was like a father, a brother, and friend to all of us. He has a lot of energy and a great sense of humor. He teaches with a hands on approach to each individual to help guide each person in creating their own unique masks. We often sculpted in the mornings while listening to great music, then a break for lunch, and right into the acting studio to explore the expressions and personalities of our masks. There is nothing better then acting in a studio, exploring physical movements and expression, with the view of the mountains and the pasture right outside the door. Its the best thing I've ever done for myself. ~LB
